Friday Night. Stake Center. Dim, but not too dim, lights. Line dancing. Break Dancing. The YMCA. You know where I'm going with this...
We totally chaperoned a stake dance for youth conference Friday night! You guys, take a moment to reflect on your Stake Dance memories. Yep, everything that went through your mind just now happened right before our eyes. It was one big giant flashback to my teen years, so why was it so much fun? Cotton Eye Joe and Love Shack just never get old, eh? I'm forgetting...what are the other stake dance classics? Help me out.

Ok, so I need the scoop- I'd have paid to be a fly on the wall at Sam's first ever dance.
But don't forget the all time Stake Dance classic- Shout! Complete with jumping screaming and getting way down low on the floor. Or was that just for us old types?
Bryan Adams: "Everything I Do (I Do It for You)"
Haddaway: "What is Love?"
Vengaboys: "We Like to Party"
Oh, I could go on for pages...my freshman year of college I made a CD of nothing but stake dance music to help fight off the homesickness! Now I'm really tempted to go chaperone a stake dance of my own. I don't think our stake does those--after all, our ward only has about 3 young men AND young women, and only 1 is 14 or older...
Don't forget about the Electric Slide! It's a classic and yes I did request it to be played at my wedding and we had a blast dancing to it!!
Well, I can't say that I recall these songs with anything that might be confused with fondness, but I do recall a few:
The Cha-Cha Slide
The Chicken Dance
The Proclaimer's "I'm Gonna Be (500 miles)"
I could probably think of more, but the biggies have already been mentioned otherwise...
I know all of the songs; after all, it was my hubby that DJ'd the dance! :) I probably have all of the songs on my iPod. There's nothing like an extra beat when speed walking on a treadmill....
I just remember those dances as such a painful thing. Maybe more awkward rather than painful, but still...
My big favorite song was Somebody by Depeche Mode. It was always the last song for the evening...you could count on it.
I hated when I got stuck dancing with a gross guy when "Stairway to Heaven" came on. Longest. song. ever. Jon and I had to host a stake dance a little while ago and it was pretty funny to look at the kids and know exactly what they're thinking and how insecure they are. The poor guy that went to the bathroom probably 37 times! Fun memories...
That is crazy how some things NEVER change. Glad you got to relive the glory days.
yeah. we usually get stationed at one of the side doors and justin gets us mexican take-out.
the first time we went i think i sulked the entire time. didn't like them then, don't like them now.
oh! and justin got asked to dance by some brazen young woman. wow!
Cotton-Eye Joe? You young whippersnappers... My stake dance classics include "Every Little Step" by Bobby Brown, the immortal "Ice Ice Baby" by Vanilla Ice, and of course "Forever Young" by Alphaville.
They used to play "I Like Big Butts" at our stake dances. I know!
